Men's Golf Returns to Course At Coca-Cola Duke Classic

CONWAY, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina men's golf team will return to the course at the Coca-Cola Duke Golf Classic, Sun.-Mon., Oct. 8-9. The tournament will again be played at the Duke Universtiy Golf Club (Par 72 - 7,105 yards) in Durham, N.C., the site of the 1962 and 2001 NCAA Championships.

The Chanticleers, ranked 14th in the nation and fourth in the region by Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and 21st nationally by the Golf Coaches Association of America, return to the tournament where they tied for second last year with Northwestern, one shot behind host Duke. This year, the field includes two other top-25 teams in Duke (13th) and North Carolina (16th) and three others receiving votes -- Charlotte, Jacksonville and Ohio State. CCU head coach Allen Terrell expects it to be a battle again for the Chanticleers to come out with a quality finish.

"Coastal hasnt had a great track record of success at the Duke University Golf Club," Terrell said. "Last year was great experience for our team to finally find some success on their great course. We fought for 54 holes only to lose on the last hole with Duke making a 10-footer to beat us. Duke has a great team again this year so we are going to need all five guys playing well. We look forward to the challenge."

This is also a homecoming of sorts for Terrell. Prior to taking over the Coastal Carolina golf program, he was an assistant coach for two years at Duke, working with both the men's and women's golf team. While there, he was a part of a NCAA Women's Golf Championship squad and helping the men's team move from No. 64 to No. 18 in the country and qualify for the national championship.

"Going back to Duke is always special to me," Terrell continued. "I have the upmost respect for Coach Myers and Coach Brooks. They have been a huge influence in my coaching career. To be able to start my coaching career working for two Hall of Fame coaches was an incredible opportunity. I will always be indebited to those guys."

Teams will play 36 holes of golf on Sunday and an 18-hole final round on Monday. Action on Sunday begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
