Celtic Manor, Wales - We have arrived safely for the 2010 Ryder Cup.
President Dave Decenzo, Athletic Director Hunter Yurachek and I departed Myrtle Beach Thursday evening. After a seven-hour flight to London, we made the three-hour drive west to Newport, Wales.
I would dare say Coastal is one of the first institutions to have their President and Athletic Director attend the Ryder Cup. Another great example of how special CCU is and how much our administration appreciates our student-athletes.
For me, personally, this is one of my most proud moments as a collegiate and professional coach. I was so proud to see Dustin on stage representing his country at THE top event for our sport. It was a very emotional moment when Captain Corey Pavin said, "From Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Dustin Johnson."
For the rest of my life, I will never forget that special moment. I am so proud of DJ.
Then Captain Pavin announced the first team for our four ball.
"Representing the USA in the first fourball match will be Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson."
WOW!! Our guy will get to lead his country by hitting the first ball Friday morning. What an honor and what confidence Dustin has received by his Captian and fellow players.
The weather forecast does not look favorable but we are excited to get out the Celtic Manor and pull hard for Dustin and Phil.
It has been a long day of travel and excitement. We got up (Friday) at 5 am (unfortunately, that midnight EST) to head out to the course. It will be a historic day for Coastal.
I know our supporters back home are excited and I know our community will be cheering hard.
