CONWAY - After placing among the top three in each of its first two events of 2012-13, the Coastal Carolina men's golf team is ranked 24th by GolfStat, one of the two most recognized polls in collegiate golf.
The Chanticleers captured a third-place finish at Northwestern's Windon Memorial and the team opened the 2012-13 season with a runner-up finish at Air Force's Gene Miranda Invitational. With that, Coastal's record is 23-3-1.
Coastal's three losses came from #21 Colorado, who CCU finished runner-up to at the Gene Miranda Invitational; #22 Ohio State, who won the Windon Memorial; and #13 Northwestern, who finished second at its own event and one spot ahead of CCU. The Chants tied #8 UNLV at Air Force and defeated #25 Indiana at Northwestern.
Not only has Coastal finished among the top three in each of its two events this season, but the Chants have had at least two individuals finish among the top 10 both times. Sebastian Soderberg has finished among the top five twice, placing third at Air force and tied for fifth at Northwestern. Soderberg was joined in the top 10 by Roberto Ballesteros, who finished sixth at Air Force, and Ben Wheeler, who was runner-up at Northwestern.
Coastal Carolina will return to action Oct. 12-14 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, hosted by East Tennessee State at The Ridges Golf and Country Club.
However, Chanticleer sophomore Peter Valasek will be back in action Oct. 4-7 as he will be representing his native Slovakia at the 28th Annual World Amateur Team Championship in Antalya, Turkey.
