Lyons earns his first weekly honor of the year after earning medalist honors at The McLaughlin

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina senior Sam Lyons (Little River, S.C.) has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Men's Golfer of the Week for events played Sept. 17-23, it was announced today by the Conference office. This is the second weekly league honor of his career.
Lyons tied a career best with a 2-under 208 (73-68-67) to tie for medalist honors at The McLaughlin (par 70, 6,734 yards), his first collegiate tournament victory. Lyons shot the best final round of the tournament with a 3-under 67 to lead the Chanticleers to the team title in the event, coming behind in the final round. He led Coastal Carolina to a school record 5-under 835 (280-277-278), four shots ahead of runner-up UNC Wilmington and the only under-par round on the final 18. The Chanticleers' three single rounds rank among the top 14 rounds in school history.
The Chanticleers, ranked 16th in the latest Golfstat ratings, will next be in action Mon.-Tue., Oct. 5-6 at the 2009 Windon Memorial Classic at Skokie Country Club in Skokie, Ill.
