Sebastian Soderberg Gets Big South Honor
Sept. 22, 2011
CONWAY - Coastal Carolina's Sebastian Soderberg, a junior on the Chanticleer men's golf team, has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Men's Golfer of the Week for his performance at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational (Sept. 18-19).
Soderberg, who earned a berth to the NCAA Championship this past June, picked up where he left off in the spring at the Falcon Invitational, Coastal's first event of 2011-12.
Soderberg shook off a 75 in the first round, standing in 60th place, to shoot six-under par for his final 36 holes, carding rounds of 68-70. Soderberg finished 12th and led Coastal to a seventh-place finish in the 18-team field. The 68 and the three-under par 213 were both one stroke shy of Soderberg's career lows.
Despite being a two-time All-Big South pick and just the third Chanticleer to earn All-Region honors, the 68 was just his third career round in the 60's and his final two rounds gives him 21 total rounds at par or better - 13th-best in school history since 1993-94. Over Coastal's last 14 events, Soderberg has been the team's top finisher nine times.
The Chanticleers return to action Oct. 1-2 at Duke's Rod Myers Invitational.
