CONWAY, S.C. -- Former Coastal Carolina University men's golfer and All-American Zack Byrd fired a 5-under 65 in the final round in his Pre-Qualifying Stage in Lincoln, Neb. to advance to First Qualifying Stage of the PGA Tour Q-School, Sept. 15-19. The top 43 plus ties advanced out, with the golfers finding out their location for the First Stage being played on   on Sept. 29.

In 75th through 36 holes, Byrd posted rounds of 2-under 68 and 5-under 65 in his final two rounds to shoot 5-over 285 and tie for 29th.

"I knew after the first two rounds that I had to go under the next two to have a chance," Byrd said. "I also knew that I hadn't really played that bad as it was two or three shots in each of the first two rounds that cost me six or seven. I was determined to rebound and did in those last two rounds, especially today, and now I get to move on to the first stage. I am very happy with the way I played yesterday and today overall."

Byrd will next be in pro action Sept. 28-Oct. 4, 2009 at the Hooters' Tour Capitol Chevrolet Classic, as he received a sponsor's exemption. The event is being played at The Members Club at Woodcreek in Elgin, S.C.
