Men's Golf's Byrd Ties for Ninth at Cardinal Amateur

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Redshirt senior Zack Byrd tied for ninth at the highly-competitive 30th Cardinal Amateur, Aug. 8-10, in Greensboro, N.C. The 54-hole tournament was played on the Par 70, 7,002-yard Pete Dye re-designed Cardinal Golf and Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. The field consists of 78 contestants, half from the college level and half from mid-amateurs.

Byrd struggled to a 5-over 75 in the opening round, but rallied with a 1-under 69 and 1-over 71 in the final two rounds to finish at 5-over 215, tying with Bruce Woodall of Yanceyville, N.C. Zack Sucher, a rising senior at University Alabama-Birmingham, fired a final round 68 to capture the Cardinal Amateur with a 2-under 208 total.
