2011-12 GCAA All-Academic Teams
CONWAY - For the fourth time in four years of the award, the Coastal Carolina men's golf team has been recognized on the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-Academic Team, presented by Farmers Insurance, as the Chanticleers posted a team grade point average of at least a 3.0 for the 2011-12 year.
While this marks the fourth year the GCAA has issued such recognition, the Coastal Carolina men's golf team has achieved at least a 3.0 team GPA in each of Director of Golf Allen Terrell's 12 years with the Chanticleers.
This past year, the Chanticleer men's golf program posted a GPA of 3.095, led by Kevin Vanden Heuvel's 3.7 GPA. Six of eight Chanticleer men's golfers posted a 3.0 PGA for the 2011-12 year. Last month, Sebastian Soderberg, a two-time Academic All-Big South selection, and Charlie Winegardner were two of 146 NCAA Division I student-athlete golfers named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, as named by the GCAA.
"Being recognized by the GCAA as an All-Academic Team is a priority for the men's golf program," Terrell said. "We are very proud of our athletic success and the tradition we have built, but seeing our student-athletes succeed in the classroom and ultimately receive their degrees from Coastal Carolina is what we are here to accomplish. I appreciate the hard work this team puts into their studies and I want to thank all those who guide our student-athletes in their academic pursuits."
