CONWAY - For the fifth time in five years of the award, the Coastal Carolina men's golf team has been recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) as being All-Academic Team, presented by Farmers Insurance. For the 2012-13 year, the Chanticleers posted a team grade point average of 3.227.
While this marks the fifth year the GCAA has issued such recognition, the Coastal Carolina men's golf team has achieved at least a 3.0 team GPA in each of Director of Golf Allen Terrell's 13 years with the Chanticleers.
The Chanticleers were led by two-time Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Sebastian Soderberg, who additionally finished as a three-time Academic All-Big South honoree. Coastal also had an excellent year on the course, winning the 2013 Big South Championship, placing fifth at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional and advancing to the 2013 NCAA Championship.
"As much as we strive to be one of the best golf programs on the course, we equally emphasize the need to be a success in the classroom as well," Terrell said. "Being recognized by the GCAA as an All-Academic Team is a priority for the men's golf program. We are very proud of the tradition we have built, both athletically and academically. We feel Coastal Carolina is a place where you can achieve every goal of a collegiate student-athlete."
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. Only those team with a GPA of at least 3.0 will be considered.
