Ty Wengel Joins Coastal Carolina Golf Team

A transfer from Montana Tech, Ty Wengel will redshirt the 2010-11 season and then have two years eligibility remaining.

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina University head men's golf coach Allen Terrell has announced the addition of Ty Wengel to the squad. A transfer from Montana Tech, Wengel will redshirt the 2010-11 season and then have two years eligibility remaining.

At Montana Tech, Wengel was posted a 74.5 career scoring average and was a two-time All-Frontier Conference selection. Between his freshman and sophomore seasons, Wengle was tied for the lead at the Montana State Men's Amateur after rounds of 70-69, but he called a penalty on himself which led to a disqualification after nine holes on the third day.

Wengel (Butte, Montana/Butte HS) was a two-time first team All-State honoree, finishing fifth in the 2007 (junior year) Montana Class AA state championship and seventh in 2008 (senior year). He was named the Butte High outstanding boy golfer for 2007 and 2008. Wengel played his first two years of high school at Faith Lutheran in Las Vegas.

He also competed on FCWT (Future Collegian's World Tour) and the AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) events as well as several major junior amateur tournaments. In 2007-2008, Wengel won five tournaments and set his career scoring record, a 63 during the Montana Junior Championship.

He qualified for the Montana Alberta Cup and Montana Junior Americas Cup after placing third at the 2008 state junior amateur. Wengel was additionally the medalist three years in a row at the district qualifier for the state junior amateur.
