CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina University's men's golf program will be represented in the 2008 South Carolina Golf Association Amateur Championship, as returners Sam Lyons (Little River, S.C./North Myrtle Beach), Josh Jackson (Edgefield, S.C./Strom Thurmond), Drew Ernst (Seneca, S.C./Seneca), David Dannelly (Easley, S.C./Easley), Tripp McAllister (Lake City, S.C./The Carolina Academy) and Brandon Roach (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Carolina Forest) will all be part of the 132-man field. The stroke-play tournament will be played at Musgrove Mill Golf Club in Clinton, S.C., August 7-10, 2008.
Lyons was tied for the medalist honors at the Links of Stono Ferry in Hollywood, S.C., July 15, but fell in a one-hole playoff to Chris Couch of Summerville. Roach also qualified for the Amateur through this sectional, just making the cut of 17 players at 2-over 74. Jackson was among the 27 players to make the field The Windermere Club in Blythewood, S.C. after tying for third with a 4-under 68.
Ernst finished third at the qualifier at Cobb's Glen in Anderson, S.C. with a 2-under 70, while Dannelly tied for fifth at even-par 72. McAllister, the Big South's reigning Player and Freshman of the Year, shot a 1-over 73 at the Country Club of Orangeburg in Orangeburg, S.C. to finish among a 10-player group at 1-over 73, which was the cut line for the 24 players in that group.
