SENECA, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina University men's golfer Drew Ernst is tied for the lead after the first round of the South Carolina Open. The three-day, 54-hole stroke play event is being played at Cross Creek Plantation in Seneca, S.C.
Ernst, playing in his hometown, fired a 2-under 69 on the first day of the tournament to share the lead with three other golfers, all professionals. Ernst posted an eagle, four birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey as part of his round. The eagle occurred on the ninth hole, one of just four eagles in the 127-player field. Teammate Tripp McAllister is also competing in the event and is tied for 24th after posting a 2-over 73 on his first 18. McAllister had an up-and-down round, as he had five birdies, five bogeys and one double bogey in his round.
