Men's Golf's Byrd Tied For Eighth After First Round of Southern Amateur

PINEHURST, N.C. -- Senior-to-be Zack Byrd fired a four-under 68 in the first round and is tied for eighth after the first round of the Southern Amateur, being played at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, N.C., July 18-21. 

Playing in the morning Byrd had five birdies and just one bogey in the opening round, including going three-under on the opening nine. Teammate and sophomore-to-be Dan Obremski played in the afternoon wave and shot an eight-over 80 to sit in a tie for 155th, with seven bogeys, one double bogey and just one birdie on his card.

After 18 holes played tomorrow, the top 66 scores and ties will advance to the final 36 holes.
