CONWAY - Roberto Ballesteros, one of the top junior golfers in Mexico, has signed a National Letter of Intent with Coastal Carolina University, head coach Allen Terrell has announced.

Ballesteros - a native of Cordoba, Mexico - ranked 23rd on the 2009 American Junior Golf Association par 3 rankings with a scoring average of 2.92.

"Roberto is a proven winner and he is exactly the type of student-athlete we are trying to attract to CCU," Terrell said. "He is a great student and has won on the national and global level. He is a member of the Men's Mexican National Team and one of the top amateurs in Mexico. Roberto is passionate about winning championships during his time at Coastal. He is always in contention at tournaments and, because of that, he will compete right away for our top spot."

In December 2009, Ballesteros tied for eighth at the Doral-Publix Junior Golf Classic, carding a 220 (76-69-75) over three rounds, and tied for third at the Junior Orange Bowl Qualifier with an even par 140 (74-66). He qualified for the prestigious AJGA Polo Golf Junior Classic and tied for 54th in November after finishing eighth at the AJGA Mayakoba Junior Classic with a three-round total of 225 (78-71-76).

Ballesteros placed seventh at the 2009 TOYOTA Junior World Cup, shooting a five-under 279 (70-71-71-67), helping Mexico place fifth in the team competition. Also last summer, he carded a 223 (74-75-74) to place 25th at the Boys Junior Americas Cup and added a fifth-place finish at the 53rd Annual Texas Oklahoma Junior Golf Tournament (79-69--72-72=292).
