CONWAY - Former Coastal Carolina men's golf teammates Dustin Johnson and Zach Byrd will be in the field for this weekend's 111th US Open, played at historic Congressional Country Club (Bethesda, Md.).

"This is really exciting for the Coastal golf program," said Director of Golf Allen Terrell. "We were hoping Tom (Gillis) could find his way into the field too, but to have Dustin and Zach there is just awesome. People are familiar with Dustin's story and Zach was every bit as important to those teams that advanced to the NCAA Championships as Dustin was. Dustin and Zach are playing well heading into our national championship and I know they will represent themselves and Coastal Carolina is a first-class manner."

Johnson, who is ranked ninth in the world, is coming off a fourth-place finish at Jack Nicklaus' Memorial Tournament, shooting a 65 on the final round. Johnson has five top 10 finishes this season.

Byrd was the fourth overall alternate to the 2011 U.S. Open after being the first alternate from the New Jersey sectional qualifier last Monday, where he shot 69-70. Thanks to three withdrawals and no one entering the top 50 through last week's schedule, Byrd was invited to compete by the USGA (United States Golf Association).

Byrd, a two-time Big South champion and 2009 All-American, will be paired with Matthew Edwards and amateur Brad Benjamin. The group tee off Thursday on hole 10 at 8:50 am and hole 1 on Friday at 2:30 pm.

Johnson is paired with Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson. The group will tee of Thursday on hole 10 at 1:35 p.m. and Friday off hole 1 at 7:55 a.m.
