WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – The Coastal Carolina University men’s golf team slipped slightly in the second round but are well in contention, sitting in third place after 36 holes of the 2007 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, May 31 at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va.

The Chanticleers shot a one-over 281 in their second round and stayed high on the leaderboard at two-under 558. Stanford has a five-shot lead (553) on the Chanticleers after the second round, with Minnesota in second, four ahead of CCU at 554. Regional rival East Tennessee State is in fourth at even-par 560.

Senior Dustin Johnson (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Dutch Fork) remained tied for third after his two-under 68 put him at five-under 135 for the event. Johnson birdied six of the first eight holes in his second round, but gave back all six shots on 12, 13 and 14 before making birdies on 15 and 18 to close his round. Junior Lindsay Renolds (Christina Lake, British Columbia/Heritage (S.C.) Academy) is next in a tie for 14th with a one-under 139, including a one-under 69 in the second round. For the second straight round, CCU had no score worse than a 75 for the day.
