Men's Golf Has Three Advance to Sectional Qualifying for U.S. Open

CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina University's men's golf program was well represented in the U.S. Open Local Qualifiers, having three players advance to the Sectional Qualifying round. Former Chanticleer Dustin Johnson is already in the field by virtue of his recent wins on the PGA Tour. Recent graduate Zack Byrd as well as returners Dan Obremski and Cameron Hooper look to join him, as the trio advanced out of their local qualifiers.

Byrd played on May 22 at River Landing Golf Club just outside of Wilmington, N.C. and finished second with a 69, as five players advanced out of the region with the high score a 70. Obremski was the final of six qualifiers on May 21 at The Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, surviving a playoff after shooting a 70 to earn the last advancing spot. Hooper was the first to play, competing on May 18 at Amelia River Golf Club in Amelia Island, Fla. He fired a 75 to tie for second after battling an injury throughout the spring.

The 13 Sectional Qualifiers for the Open will begin on June 8.
