Men's Golf Finishes 11th At 2009 NCAA Northeast Regional

      GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf squad wrapped up its 2008-09 campaign with an 11th-place finish at the 2009 NCAA Northeast Regional, May 14-16. The three-day, 54-hole event was contested at Galloway National Golf Club (Par 71 - 7,022 yards) in Galloway, N.J.

      The No. 8-seeded Chanticleers put together their best round of the tournament and the fourth-best round of the final day, shooting a 293, but could only move up one spot to 11th with a 54-hole score of 915. No. 10 Alabama won the regional with a score of 874, four shots better than No. 20 Tennessee at 878. No. 15 Illinois, Virginia and No. 27 Wake Forest also advanced out of the regional to the NCAA Championships, as the top five teams from each of the six regions advanced.

            Redshirt-freshman Drew Ernst posted the only under-par round for the Chanticleers in the tournament, shooting a 3-under 68 in the final 18 to move into a tie for 11th at 221. Redshirt-senior Zack Byrd was next in a tie for 38th at 229, with junior Dan Obremski tied for 45th at 231. Sophomore Tripp McAllister was next, finishing 60th at 237, while junior Sam Lyons tied for 67th at 243.
