CHATTANOOGA, TENN. - Coastal Carolina University's men's golf team is tied for 14th after the opening round of the NCAA East Regional, May. 15. The three-day, 54-hole regional is being played at Council Fire Golf Club (Par 71 - 6,961 yards) in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Chanticleers shot a 1-over 285 as a team in the first round, but are only behind the final advancing slot by four shots as Virginia Tech, Auburn and Charlotte are tied for eighth at 3-under 281. The top 10 teams and three individuals not on those squads advance to the NCAA Championships May 28-31, 2008 at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex-The Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Indiana and will be hosted by Purdue University.
Freshman Tripp McAllister leads the CCU effort in a 4-under 67, putting him in a tie for seventh. Sophomore Sam Lyons is next for Coastal in a tie for 33rd after a 1-under 70. Henrik Norlander of Augusta State and Georgia's Hudson Swafford lead the field, each posting a 6-under 65.
The Chanticleers will play their second round starting at 12:12 p.m. going off the No. 1 tee with Middle Tennessee State and Memphis.
