CONWAY - Coastal Carolina junior Sebastian Soderberg has earned an individual at-large berth to the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf Athens Regional, to be played at the University of Georgia Golf Course May 17-19. The Athens Regional will have tee times off Nos. 1 and 10 starting at 8 am on May 17 and 18 and starting at 7:30 am on May 19.

This marks the 13th consecutive year Coastal Carolina has been represented in the NCAA postseason. The team has earned 10 bids since 2000 with individuals earning at-large berths in 2001, '03 and '12.

Soderberg (Ojersjo, Sweden) is a three-time All-Big South honoree and has posted a 72.88 scoring average to date this past season. He had three top-five finishes in 2011-12, taking medalist honors at the Furman Intercollegiate, and had a total of five top-20 finishes in 11 events this season.

Soderberg started the season in fine fashion, shooting a 3-under 213 at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. He then finished the year on a high note, posting a 70.82 stroke average over his final 11 rounds and, over his last five events, Soderberg averaged 71.40 strokes per round with three top-five finishes (fourth at the John Hayt Collegiate, first at Furman and fourth at the Big South Championships).

Last season, Soderberg became the third Chant to earn Golf Coaches Association of America/PING All-Region. He also advanced to the NCAA Championship after tying for second at the 2011 NCAA East-Virginia Tech Regional. He carded rounds of 71-72-67 at the Regional for a 54-hole total of 4-under 212. At the NCAA Championship, Soderberg tied for 81st after rounds of 77 and 79 before turning in an even-par 72 in the final round.

Soderberg is the third Chanticleer to earn an individual at-large berth to an NCAA Regional. Rafael Vera tied for 56th in the 2001 NCAA East Regional, shooting 72-72-71=216, and Alvero Velasco tied for 18th at the 2003 East Regional, carding rounds of 68-72-74 for a total of 214.
