CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina's men's golf team has been assigned to the East Regional at Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee to start the 2008 NCAA Men's Golf Championships, May 15-17, the NCAA announced Monday. The Chanticleers have been seeded 20th in the Regional this year. Three 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 15-17, with a total of 27 teams and six individuals not on selected teams were assigned to each regional site. The NCAA Championship will be conducted May 28-31 on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana.  Purdue University is the host institution for this year’s championships. Ten teams and two individuals not on advancing teams will move on from each regional to the championship finals.

Last year, the Chants posted a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, the highest team finish in any NCAA team event in the history of the Big South Conference. However, CCU had barely gotten that far, winning a four-hole playoff with Clemson for the final spot out of the NCAA East Regional. This marks the fifth straight year that CCU will head to the NCAA Regionals, as they attempt to make their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.

Coastal is coming off its fifth straight Big South Conference title, winning the event by 16 shots at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C. It was also Coastal's 10th league title in the last 12 years and 11th overall. Coastal freshman David Dannelly won medalist honors at the Big South Championship with a 2-under 214, the eighth Coastal golfer to have won the individual title at the Big South Championship in the last 18 years. CCU also had three others earn All-Big South honors, including Freshman and Player of the Year Tripp McAllister, senior Lindsay Renolds and sophomore Dan Obremski.
