Coastal Carolina sophomore Luis Ruiz was named All-Sun Belt second team, as voted on by the league's head coaches, the conference announced today.

Ruiz was tied with three others for low medalist at the 2017 Sun Belt Championship and credited with his first collegiate win before falling in a playoff to officially tie for second for league purposes. He finished with Coastal's top scoring average (73.64) as he just edged out his older brother Alfredo (73.75) for the honor thanks to a strong finish.

Ruiz was CCU's top scorer in three of CCU's last four events and recorded all three of his top 20 finishes for the year over the span, placing 19th at the General Hackler Championship, 14th at the East Carolina Intercollegiate and his finish at the Sun Belt Championship. Also, over his last four events, Ruiz averaged 72.64 strokes per round and posted four rounds of par or better.

The sophomore improved his scoring average by nearly two full strokes over his freshman year as he recorded eight of his career 10 rounds of par or better this season.
