Coastal Puts 13 on Big South Men's Golf All-Decade Teams

The Chants have won a Big South-best 14 team titles and 10 individual medalist honors

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's golf program, which has won a Big South-best 14 team titles and 10 individual medalist honors, placed a Big South-best 13 members on the league's All-Decade Teams. Part of the Big South's 30th anniversary celebration, the all-decade teams were determined by conference administrators and fan voting.

Chanticleers John Faidley, Chris Gale and Brian Lamb were voted to the 1980's All-Decade Team. Brad Hastings., Trevor Gliwski, Julian James and Wil Weldon represented Coastal on the 1990's All-Decade Team. Six from Coastal Carolina were voted to the All-Decade Team for the 2000's, including Zack Byrd, Dustin Johnson, Tripp McAllister, Alvero Valseco, Rafael Vera and head coach Allen Terrell.

Faidley, Gale and Lamb were each named to the 1986 All-Big South team and each earned the honor twice in their careers.

Hastings, Gliwski and Weldon were each Big South medalist and earned Big South Golfer of the Year honors. Hastings, who set the CCU career scoring mark at 73.64 from 1996-2000, was Coastal's first four-time All-Big South selection, while Gliwski and Weldon were three-time all-conference picks. James was also a three-time All-Big South selection and was named the league's Rookie of the Year in 1998.

In the 2000's, Coastal produced the league's only All-Americans (Byrd and Johnson), won seven conference titles and played in three NCAA Championships, placing fifth in 2007. Byrd, a two-time All-American, was a three-time All-Big South honoree, two-time Big South medalist, three-time Academic All-Big South, 2009 Big South Golfer of the Year and 2005 Big South Rookie of the Year. Johnson, a three-time All-American, was named All-Big South four times, Big South Golfer of the Year three times and was the 2007 Big South medalist. Johnson owns the CCU career scoring record (72.11) and the top two CCU single-season scoring marks (70.40 in 2006-07 and 71.80 in 2005-06). He additionally won the 2005 NCAA East Regional.

McAllister was a two-time All-Big South honoree and was voted the Big South Golfer of the Year and Big South Rookie of the Year in 2008. Vera and Velasco both earned individual berths to an NCAA Regional and both were two-time All-Big South picks. Vera was the 2001 Big South medalist/Golfer of the Year, while Velasco, a two-time Big South All-Academic team member, was the 2004 Big South Golfer of the Year as well as being voted Big South Golfer of the Year.

Terrell was a six-time Big South Coach of the Year in the 2000's and Coastal Carolina was represented at an NCAA Regional - either the team or an individual - in all 10 years of the decade.
