Men's Golf Leads By 10 Shots Through Two Rounds of Big South Championship

NINETY-SIX, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina's men's golf squad has a 10-shot advantage through the first 36 holes of the 2008 Big South Conference Men's Golf Championship, Apr. 21. The two-day, 54-hole championship is being played at The Patriot Golf Club (Par 72 - 7,079 yards) in Ninety Six, S.C.
The four-time defending league champion Chanticleers struggled in the first round on Monday, shooting 296 to sit in a tie with second-seeded Radford and five shots ahead of Liberty in third. However, Coastal put it together in the afternoon round, shooting a 2-over 290 to post the best score of the second 18 by 10 shots over three teams and grab a 10-shot advantage at 586. RU is in second at 596, while Charleston Southern is in third at 604.
Coastal sophomore David Dannelly led after his opening round 2-under 70 to take a two-shot lead and extended it to four with a 1-over 73 in the second round to finish the first 36 holes at 1-under 143. A group of three players, including CCU senior Lindsay Renolds is tied for second at 3-over 147, while sophomore Dan Obremski is in fifth at 4-over 148. Big South Freshman and Player of the Year Tripp McAllister rebounded from a rough 79 in the first round to post the best total of the second 18 with a 2-under 70, moving the Coastal freshman into a tie for sixth at 5-over 149. The final round of the tournament will be played on Tue., Apr. 22, with the winner earning the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.Team Results Scores 1.
