ONEONTA, ALA. -- The Coastal Carolina men's golf squad stretched its lead to 14 shots after two rounds of the 2007 PUPS Big South Conference Golf Championship, Apr. 17. The 54-hole, three-day tournament is being played at Limestone Springs Golf Club (Par 72 - 6,987 Yards) in Oneonta, Ala., Apr. 16-18.
Also ranked as the top team in Region 3-North, the top-seeded Chanticleers shot their second straight four-over 292 in breezy conditions and now has a 584 total, ahead of No. 2 Charleston Southern at 596. No. 3 Winthrop is in third at 600.
Senior Dustin Johnson (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Dutch Fork) fired a tournament low 67 in the second round and is currently at six-under 138, six shots better than Ryan Wilson of High Point in second. Junior Zack Byrd (Calabash, N.C./Byrd Academy) is tied for third at one-over 145 after a 74 in the second round, while freshman Dan Obremski (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) is tied for ninth at 150. Freshman Sam Lyons (Little River, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) and junior Lindsay Renolds (Christina Lake, B.C./Heritage (S.C.) Academy) round out CCU's squad in a tie for 16th at 153.
The Chanticleers will tee off No. 1 starting at 7:45 a.m., playing for the third straight round with No. 2 Charleston Southern and No.3 Winthrop.
