CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina University has secured the No. 1 seed in next week’s Big South Men’s Golf Championship, which will be hosted by Charleston Southern University at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety-Six, S.C. Coastal Carolina, which has won the last four Big South Men’s Golf Championships, receives the No. 1 seed based on its current Golfweek national ranking of 64, the highest among the six Big South men’s golf programs.Radford is ranked 134th in the nation by Golfweek and receives the No. 2 seed. Libertyis the No. 3 seed with its ranking of 160, while Charleston Southern will be the No. 4 seed based on its No. 171 ranking. Winthrop, last year’s runner-up to Coastal Carolina, is ranked No. 173 nationally and is the fifth seed, followed by High Point at No. 6 with its ranking of 225. In addition, future Big South member Presbyterian College will participate in the event, but will not officially count in the overall team and individual standings. The Patriot Club is hosting the Big South Men’s Golf Championship for the third time in four years, as the course hosted the event in 2005 and 2006. The 2008 Big South Men’s Golf Championship begins this weekend with a practice round on Sunday, April 20. The two-day, 54-hole event will feature a 36-hole first day on Monday, April 21, followed by an 18-hole final round on Tuesday, April 22. The event is free and open to the public, and the 2008 champion will receive the Big South’s automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals. The 2008 annual award winners and half of the All-Conference team will be announced at that time, while the remaining All-Conference performers will be determined by their finish in the Conference Championship.
