CHARLOTTE, N.C. Coastal Carolina has secured the No. 1 seed in next weeks PUPS/PDPS Big South Mens Golf Championship, which will be hosted by Winthrop University at The Patriot Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C. for the second straight year. The Chanticleers, last years champion, receives the No. 1 seed based on its current Golfweek national ranking of 16, the highest among the seven Big South mens golf programs.
Radford, which finished fifth in last years championship, is ranked 128th in the nation by Golfweek and receives the No. 2 seed. Charleston Southern, runner-up a year ago, is the No. 3 seed with its ranking of 136. Liberty is ranked 153rd nationally and garners the No. 4 seed in the championship. Winthrop (165) follows Liberty at No. 5, while Birmingham-Southern (No. 6 174) and High Point (No. 7 205) round out the championship field.
The 2006 PUPS/PDPS Big South Mens Golf Championship begins this weekend with a practice round on Sunday, April 16. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played April 17-19 and is free and open to the public. The 2006 champion will receive the Big Souths automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals. The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:

Meanwhile, the annual Big South Mens Golf Awards Banquet will be held Sunday, April 16 at 7:00pm ET at the Grand Harbor Yacht Club Cabana at The Patriot. The 2006 annual award winners and half of the All-Conference Teams will be announced at that time, while the remaining All-Conference performers will be determined by their finish in the Conference Championship.
