Men's Golf Ties for Fourth at Administaff AugustaState Invitational

           AUGUSTA, Ga.The Coastal Carolina University men’s golf team shot all three rounds under par and moved up on the final day to tie for fourth at the 2009 Administaff Augusta State Inivitational, April 4-5. The two-day, 54-hole event is being played at the Forest Hills Golf Club (Par 72 - 7,161 yards) in Augusta, Ga.

            The Chanticleers shot a 1-under 287 in the final round to move up from fifth to a tie for fourth with UCF at 15-under 849 for the 54 holes. Tournament host Augusta State took the team honors by 13 shots, shooting a 36-under 828 to defeat runner-up Chattanooga. Kent State placed third at 21-under 843.

            Coastal Carolina, who had all five players shoot at least one round under par of the first two, was again led by redshirt-senior Zack Byrd. The Calabash, N.C. native posted his sixth-straight top-20 finish, tying for 12th at 5-under 211 after shooting a 4-under 68 in the final round. Redshirt-freshman Drew Ernst was next, one shot behind at 4-under 212, tying for 18th. Sophomore Tripp McAllister was the other Chanticleers who finished under par for the tournament, shooting a 1-under 215 to tie for 36th. Juniors Sam Lyons (217) and Dan Obremski (219) rounded out the team effort, tying for 43rd and 56th, respectively. Sophomore David Dannelly, playing as an individual, tied for 47th at 218. Augusta State's Taylor Floyd took home medalist honors with a 14-under 202.

            The Chants will next take to the course to try and pick up their sixth consecutive BIg South Conference title at the 2009 Big South Conference Championship. The tournament will be played at The Patriot Golf Club in Greenwood, S.C., Monday-Wednesday, April 20-22. The winner of the event picks up the League's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
