Men's Golf's Johnson Named Big South Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C.Coastal Carolina senior Dustin Johnson (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) as the Big South Choice Hotels Men’s Golfer of the Week, announced today by the League office.

 

Johnson took home medalist honors at the Administaff ASU Invitational with a 12-under 204 (68-68-68) and winning by six shots over Houston’s Jordan Irwin, George Bryan IV of South Carolina and North Carolina’s Reed Darsie.  Johnson was a key part of the late rally for Coastal, as he was 3-over for eight holes on Sunday and had five birdies, one eagle and no bogeys in the final 10 holes (7-under), including birdies on the 16th and 18th holes when Coastal and UNC were tied.  His effort helped the Chanticleers to the team title, as CCU came from 15 shots down to claim the crown. He improved to No. 7 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. Johnson also was named National Player of the Week by GolfWeek for his performance.

 

The Chanticleers are next on the course to defend their Big South Conference title at the 2007 PUPS Big South Conference Men's Golf Championship, Mon.-Wed., Apr. 16-18 at Limestone Springs Golf Course in Oneonta, Ala.
