Men's Golf Moves Up In Polls

Chanticleers up to 24th, while Johnson now ranked 10th in nation

CONWAY, SC – The Coastal Carolina University men’s golf team is now ranked 24th in the nation, according to the GolfWeek/Sagarin Performance Index, announced March 27. The squad is also currently ranked sixth in the highly-competitive South Region by the NCAA South Region Ranking Committee.

The Chanticleers moved up one spot this week. Last week they debuted at No. 25 after a win at the Seminole Intercollegiate, March 5-7, and a runner-up finish at the General Jim Hackler Invitational, Mar. 12-13. In the last two tournaments, CCU has defeated four teams currently ranked in the top 25, with wins over East Tennessee State (#11), North Carolina (#16), Texas Tech (#19) and Pepperdine (#20).

Individually, junior Dustin Johnson (Lexington, S.C./Dutch Fork) is now ranked 10th in the nation by GolfWeek and 20th in the GolfStat Cup. In 27 rounds this season, he is averaging 72.04 strokes per round, with two individual tournament victories and a tie for first in another. The 2006 NCAA East Regional medalist, Johnson has finished in the top 20 in eight of nine events, has 12 rounds of par or better and is ranked 10th in the region, according to GolfStat, with a 516-89 record in tournament play.

Coastal will next be in action at the Administaff Augusta State Invitational Sat.-Sun., April 1-2. The tournament will be played at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
