CONWAY - Coastal Carolina senior Sebastian Soderberg was named the Big South Men's Golfer of the Week for his runner-up performance at the Seminole Intercollegiate March 15-17.
Soderberg finished the Seminole Intercollegiate (par 72, 7,172 yards) with a 10-under par 206 (71-65-70). He shot a career-low 65 (11 pars and seven birdies) in the second round and his 54-hole total of 206 was one shot off the lead and Soderberg's second-best career total. Heading into the final round Soderberg and fifth-ranked Daniel Berger of Florida State were tied for the lead with a score of 136, but Soderberg shot a 2-under 70, compared to Berger's 69, to settle for second. This marked Soderberg's fourth top five finish in eight CCU events this season and the senior is 10-under par over his last eight rounds of competition. Soderberg was under par in all three rounds and carded only three bogeys for the tournament.
Soderberg, and sophomore Ben Wheeler's sixth-place finish, helped Coastal shoot 852, the program's best score by 10 strokes this season.
This marks the fourth time Soderberg has earned the Big South's weekly honor.
Coastal Carolina will return to action March 24-25 (Sunday-Monday) in Wilmington, N.C. The Fourth Annual Seahawk Intercollegiate will be played at the Country Club of Landfall.
