CONWAY - Coastal Carolina senior Sebastian Soderberg (Ojersjo, Sweden) moved up four spots to 13th in the most recent 2013 Palmer Cup standings list for Team Europe.
The Palmer Cup is the premier yearly competition that showcases the best American collegiate golfers against the best European collegiate golfers in a Ryder Cup-style format. The 17th Annual Palmer Cup will be held this summer, June 7-9, at the Wilmington (Delaware) Country Club.
The top six golfers from both the United States and Europe shall be among the 10 individuals selected to compete in this year's Palmer Cup. The next ranking will be on April 3. The six participants selected by the Palmer Cup Ranking will be announced on April 17 with the balance of both teams named the following week.
Since the last standings update (Feb. 28), Soderberg has shot under par in four of his six rounds, including a career-low 65, and was 8-under par over those two events. Soderberg is continuing to improve as his collegiate career has progressed. He is averaging 72.17 strokes per round this season, has six top 10 finishes eight events, including four top five finishes, and has shot par or better in 12 of his 23 rounds.
Soderberg averaged 72.75 strokes per round as a junior, 73.90 as a sophomore and 75.37 as a freshman. He currently has a career scoring average of 73.57 and has 10 top five finishes in 43 events - including a win at the 2012 Furman Intercollegiate. Soderberg is a three-time All-Big South honoree and joins Zack Byrd as the only Chanticleer to be a two-time All-Region pick.
Leading the standings for Team Europe is UCLA senior Pontus Widegren, the older brother of CCU signee Olle Widegren.
The Chanticleers will return to action March 24-25 in Wilmington, N.C., at the Seahawk Invitational, playing the Country Club of Landfall.
