MURRELLS INLET, SC -- The Coastal Carolina men's golf team sits in third after the first two rounds of the 2007 General Jim Hackler Championship sponsored by Chanticleer Holdings, Mar. 11. The 54-hole tournament, hosted by the Chanticleers, is being played at CCU's home course, the TPC of Myrtle Beach (Par 72 - 6905 yards).
Under perfect weather conditions, Coastal was able to bounce back from a one-over 289 in the first round for a five-under 283 in the second and currently sit in third at four-under 572. However, two teams took advantage of the weather and an ideal course to separate themselves from the field - Lamar and Southern California. The Cardinals set a tournament record for 36-hole scoring with a 23-under 553, including a tournament record 275 in the first round. Southern Cal is seven shots back at 16-under 560, having posted two-under par rounds as well. Duke is currently fourth at three-over 580, while Tulsa and East Tennessee State are tied for fifth at four-over 580.
Tom Glissmeyer of Southern Cal and East Tennessee State's Rhys Davies are tied for the lead at nine-under 135, with Davies having set a tournament record with a seven-under 65 in the second round. Dawie Van Der Walt is one shot back at eight-under 136, whiel individual Corey Nagy of Charlotte is in fourth at seven-under 137. CCU is led by senior Dustin Johnson in a tie for 14th at one-under 143, while junior Zack Byrd is one shot back at even-par 144 in a tie for 20th.
The final round of the tournament will go off of No. 1 and No. 10 tees, starting at 8 a.m. The leading groups (Lamar, Southern Cal, Coastal and Duke) go off No. 1 tees, starting at 9:40 a.m.
