Men's Golf Slips, Finishes Fourth at General Jim Hackler Championship

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina’s men’s golf team slipped on the final day, falling three spots to finish fourth at the 2008 General Jim Hackler Championship, Mar. 9-10. The two-day, 54-hole event was played at the TPC of Myrtle Beach (Par 72 – 6,950 yards) in Murrells Inlet, S.C. and featured 11 of the 15 teams in the field ranking in the top 50 in the nation, according to Golfstat.
The Chanticleers started the final round in the lead but struggled to find a rhythm during the day, shooting a 26-over 314 to finish at 39-over 903. Wake Forest posted a final round low 4-over 292 to take home the team title at 897, three shots ahead of runner-up Florida State and four ahead of Duke in third.
Sophomore Dan Obremski posted the top finish of his CCU career with a tie for sixth at 6-over 222. Sophomore Sam Lyons was next on the team at 11-over 227, good for 19th, while senior Lindsay Renolds and freshman Tripp McAllister tied for 20th at 228. Playing as an individual, junior Josh Jackson tied for 11th at 7-over 225 to finish top among the three Chants not competing on the team. Derek Fathauer of Louisville won the medalist honors, shooting a 1-over 217 to post a two-shot victory over Augusta State’s Henrik Norlander at 219.
CCU returns to the course Mon.-Tue., Mar. 17-18 at the Barona Cup, which will be played at the Barona Golf Club in San Diego, Calif.
