TALLAHASSEE, FLA. - The Coastal Carolina men's golf team shot a two-under 286 in the final round to successfully defend its title at the 2006 Seminole Intercollegiate, Mar. 5-7. The 54-hole event, hosted by Florida State was played at Golden Eagle Country Club (Par 72 - 6,635 yards) in Tallahassee, Fla.
Coastal fired a three-day total of 851,the fourth-best team performance in a three-round event in school history, including all three rounds under par. The Chanticleers took home the team title by seven shots over runner-up North Carolina State and eight shots over North Carolina in third. Second-round leader East Tennessee State fell to fourth at 861.
Junior Dustin Johnson (Lexington, S.C./Dutch Fork) finished in a tie for first at 203 and lost the playoff on the second hold to North Carolina State's Stephen Lewton. His 203 is the third-best 54-hole total in Coastal history. Sophomore Joachim Fourquet's (Bourdeaux, France/Lycee St. Genes) 213 placed him seventh, while junior Moises Cobo (Seville, Spain/Pendleton School (Fla.)) finished in a tie for 19th at 218. Sophomore Zack Byrd (Calabash, N.C./Byrd Academy) tied for 30th overall at 221 while freshman Cameron Hooper (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) rounded out Coastal's lineup, tying for 52nd at 228.
The Chanticleers return to the course, Sun.-Mon., Mar. 12-13, hosting the General Jim Hackler Invitational. The tournament, scheduled for 54 holes over the two days, will be played at the TPC of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, S.C.
