Men's Golf Ties for 12th at Mercedes-Benz

Johnson posts fifth place finish individually

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL – The Coastal Carolina University men’s golf team moved up three spots in the final two round to finish in a tie for 12th place at the nationally-renowned Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship, Feb. 20. The tournament was contested at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.

Florida won the tournament by five shots after posting a tournament best eight-under par 280 in the final round to finish at 874 for the 54-hole tournament and place ahead of runner-up Alabama. UCLA finished third, while Augusta State placed fourth. Coastal shot its best round of the event on the last day, shooting 291 to finish at 902.

CCU was led by Dustin Johnson who posted a two-over 218 total to place fifth in the event. Zack Byrd was the other top-20 finisher for the Chanticleers, tying for 19th at six-over 222.

Coastal is next on the links Sun.-Tue., Mar. 6-8 at the Seminole Intercollegiate. The 54-hole tournament is hosted by Florida State at the Golden Eagles Country Club in Tallahassee, FL.
