CCU Men's Golf Opens Spring Schedule
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Coastal Carolina men's golf team, coming off one of its most successful fall campaigns in history, will open the spring portion of the schedule Feb. 17-18 and face an elite field at the SunTrust Gator Invitational, played at the par-70, 6,701-yard Mark Bostic Golf Course on the campus of the University of Florida.
The 16-team field features six of the top 32 teams in the nation - #5 Vanderbilt, #6 Florida, #14 Arkansas, #25 South Florida, #27 Missouri and #32 North Florida -- as well as Sun Belt foes Georgia Southern and Troy.
The event also has 15 of the top 85 golfers in the NCAA, including #3 Stephen Fisk of Georgia Southern.
"I am excited to get the spring kicked off this week in Gainesville," said head coach Jim Garren. "It seems like forever since we last played as a team. Our performance at Kiawah in the final fall event left a bad taste in our mouth so it's nice to get back after it.
"The weather leading into the spring opener has been tough but that should be a benefit for us. Also, the caliber of golf courses we play in the area is so good, we've really been able to challenge the guys. We've been a little banged up injury wise this spring but we've battled through that as well.
"We've talked about how our schedule is way more demanding this spring and it starts this week. This is going to be a great challenge for our guys. It's time for us to step up and see what we've got."
