Coastal Carolina fans will have an extra reason to cheer on former Chanticleer Dustin Johnson at this weekend's Farmers Insurance Open, held at the Torrey Pines Golf Course. Also in the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open is former Chanticleer Tom Gillis.

Johnson is part of perhaps the featured opening-round group, joining Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose. Gillis will play the first rounds with D.A. Points and Dean Wilson. Both Johnson and Gillis will play the South Course on Friday.

In a nod to its own "University of Farmers" advertising campaign, Farmers Insurance is rewarding school spirit during the third round (Saturday, Jan. 29), encouraging all fans and PGA Tour players to wear their own university colors.

For "extra credit" Farmers will award $30,000 total to the college golf programs of the three players posting the best third-round, 18-hole scores.

The player with the low third-round score (just that day's score not cumulative three-day score) will receive $15,000 for his alma mater's golf team, second will receive $10,000 and third will receive $5,000. (If a player finishes in the top three who did not attend college, a donation in that players name will go to the Golf Coaches Association of America to help cultivate future golf stars.)
