SAN MARTIN, Calif. - The 46th-ranked Coastal Carolina fell to eighth in the 10-team UCLA Gifford Collegiate after shooting a 16-over par 371 Tuesday at the par 71, 7.360-yard CordeValle Golf Course.
The event, which counts five golfers scores each day per team as opposed to the usual four, features eight teams ranked among the nation's top 50, including leader and host #5 UCLA. The Bruins stand at 11-under par after two days, shooting 350-349 for a 36-hole total of 699. They are followed by #17 Stanford (708), #30 Tennessee (716), #8 Southern California (718), #23 Northwestern (720), Lamar (726), #13 SMU (728), #46 Coastal (733), San Jose State (737) and #50 Oregon State (739).
Two Chanticleers - Peter Valasek and Easton Renwick posted an eagle on the 358-yard, par 4 eighth hole. Valasek finished with a team-best 1-under par 70 and the sophomore moved up 21 spots into a tie for 33rd with a two-day score of 146 (76-70). Also in a tie for 33rd is CCU senior Sebastian Soderberg, who shot a 4-over 75 Tuesday. The 43rd-ranked golfer in the nation posted an even par round Monday and has a two-day total of 146. Renwick finished Tuesday with a 5-over 76 and he is tied for 54th (75-76=151).
Coastal's day one leader, Andrew Dorn, is still the Chants' top scorer. After posting a 1-under 70 on Monday, the sophomore carded a a 4-over 75 Tuesday and his 145 over 36 holes places him in a tie for 27th.
Roberto Ballesteros is tied for 43rd with a two-day total of 148 (73-75), while Ben Wheeler is tied for 47th after shooting 73-76 for a total of 149. Kevin Vanden Heuvel, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 40th, carding rounds of 72-75 for a 36-hole total of 147.
The event will conclude with 18 holes on Wednesday.
