SAN MARTIN, Calif. - Coastal Carolina moved up one spot to ninth place at UCLA's Gifford Collegiate, played at CordeValle Golf Club (par 71 - 7,360 yards). The 11-team event features seven of the nation's top 41 teams.
Southern California remains on top, shooting 252 Tuesday and has a 36-hole score of 697.UCLA (709) is second, followed by Virginia (722), Oregon (725) and Washington (726). Coastal, which shot 373 on Monday, carded a 377 Tuesday and has a two-round score of 750.
The Chants got two veteran performances from Sebastian Soderberg and Roberto Ballesteros on Tuesday. After struggling with a 77 on Monday, Soderberg carded an even par 71 in round two. The junior was four under par through 13 holes, but posted two bogeys and a double over his final five holes to finish even par. Ballesteros, who shot 76 Monday, was even par through nine hole before falling to two over par after 15. The sophomore had a birdie on the final hole to shoot one-over 73. Soderberg and Ballesteros both stand at six over par (148) for the tournament and are tied for 29th.
Andrew Dorn and Charlie Winegardner each fired a 77 Tuesday. Dorn stands in a tie for 44th (74-77=151) and Winegardner is tied for 47th (75-77=152). Easton Renwick turned in an 80 Tuesday and is tied for 59th place with a 36-hole score of 155 (75-80). Coastal's day one leader, Peter Valasek, could not duplicate his opening round 73, shooting 85 Tuesday, and is in 67th with a two-day score of 158.
The Gifford Collegiate will conclude with 18 final holes on Wednesday.
