JONESBOROUGH, TENN. -- The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team finished 14th at the 2009 Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges, Oct. 16-18. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by East Tennessee State, was played at The Ridges Golf and Country Club (Par 72 - 7,147 yards) in Jonesborough, Tenn.
The Chanticleers could not get the holes strung together with no player posting better than 75 and shot a 302 in the final round to fall to 14th at 28-over 892. Tennessee and Oregon State tied at the top at 3-under 861, but the Volunteers won the scorecard playoff using the fifth player's score in the final round. Virginia was third at 1-under 863, with Virginia Tech (866) and Duke (869) rounding out the top five.
Oregon State's Diego Velasquez took home medalist honors by seven shots at 10-under 206. Redshirt-sophomore Drew Ernst was the top Chanticleer at 1-over 217, placing 19th. Senior Sam Lyons was next at 8-over 224, tying for 47th, while freshman Sebastian Soderberg tied for 53rd at 10-over 226. Senior Dan Obremski was next in a tie for 55th at 11-over 227, with freshman Anders Larson rounding out the team in 81st at 27-over 243.
The Chanticleers have completed their fall schedule and will next be on the course Sat.-Sun., Feb. 13-14, 2010 at the Gator Invitational at the University of Florida Golf Club in Gainesville, Fla.
