GLENCOE, Ill. – The Coastal Carolina University men’s golf team finished sixth at the 2009 Windon Memorial Classic, Oct. 4-5. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Northwestern University, was played at the Skokie Country Club (Par 71 - 7,081 yards) in Glencoe, Ill.

The field at the tournament was a quality group, with eight of the 15 teams ranked in Golfstat's top-50 squads. Coastal Carolina, ranked No. 21 this week, wrapped up its second round with a 291 and added a 294 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 38-over 890. No. 10 Illinois won the team race with a 16-over 868, six shots ahead of runner-up No. 37 Northwestern at 874. No. 36 Kent State was third at 24-over 876.

Senior Dan Obremski won his first collegiate title, sharing it with Kent State's Brett Cairns after each shot a 1-over 214, two shots better than the third-place finishers. Obremski fired under-par rounds in the final two rounds, posting a 1-under 70 in both the second and third rounds. He was also the second straight Chanticleer to take home an individual title after senior Sam Lyons won The McLaughlin in Coastal's last event.

Lyons was next for Coastal 12-over 225, tying for 30th, while redshirt sophomore Drew Ernst tied for 47th with freshman Anders Larson at 15-over 228. Sophomore Charlie Winegardner tied for 61st at 19-over 232.

The Chanticleers will conclude the fall schedule at the Bank of Tennessee/Ridges Invitational. The tournament, hosted by East Tennessee State, will be played Sat.-Mon., Oct. 24-26 at The Ridges Golf Club in Johnson City, Tenn.
