LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Coastal Carolina men's golf team opened its 2013-14 season by tying for 10th at the annual Windon Memorial. The Chants carded a 306 on the final round and finished with a 22-over par 886 at the par 72, 7,202-yard Knollwood Club.

Host Northwestern won the 16-team event with a 4-under 860, followed by Kent State (863), Michigan (872), Ohio State (875) and Purdue (875).

Classmates Peter Valasek and Ben Wheeler led the Chants, each tying for 24th with a 4-over par 220. Both juniors were tied for 22nd after 36 holes and both carded rounds 3-over 75 Monday.

Andrew Dorn was Coastal's top performer in the final round, turning in a 2-over 74. His three-roiund total of 223 (7-over) landed the junior in a tie for 31st. Dorn had 13 pars in the final round, off-set by two birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey. Dorn's 37 pars over 54 holes tied for seventh best in the 87-person field.

Freshman Christopher Williams, who was at 2-under par after two rounds, shot finished in a tie for 43rd with a 9-over 225. Fellow freshman Alfredo Ruiz tied for 83rd with a three-round total of 236.

Also on Monday, three Chanticleers were playing in Gardner-Webb's event at Myrtle Beach National (West Course). Freshman Olle Widegren is tied for 12th and three shots off the lead with an opening round 72 in his collegiate debut. Redshirt freshman Josh Pisarri is tied for 25th with a two-over 74. Senior Roberto Ballesteros, who is coming off a wrist injury suffered this past summer, shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 34th.
