FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Coastal Carolina University men’s golf team shot the best final round of the field and won 2009's The McLaughlin, Sept. 18-19. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by St. John's University, was played at the Bethpage Park Red Course (Par 70 - 6,734 yards) in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Coastal Carolina finished at a school-record 5-under 835, four shots ahead of runner-up UNC Wilmington and five shots better than Towson in third. The Chants had the best final round of the tournament, as they shot a 2-under 278, the only under-par round on the final 18. Johnson & Wales was fourth at 852, with Harvard and host St. John's tying for fifth at 858. The Chanticleers' three single rounds rank among the top 14 rounds in school history.

Senior Sam Lyons shot the best final round of the tournament with a 3-under 67 to finish at 2-under 208 and tie for medalist honors with Harvard's Greg Shuman and Nyasha Mauchaza of Towson. Freshman Anders Larson, in his first collegiate tournament, tied for sixth with senior Dan Obremski at even-par 210. Obremski was also under par in the final 18, shooting a 2-under 68. Redshirt-sophomore Drew Ernst was 11th at 1-over 211, while redshirt-freshman Daily Young rounded out the scoring at 7-over 217, tying for 34th.

The Chanticleers will next be in action Mon.-Tue., Oct. 5-6 at the 2009 Windon Memorial Classic at Skokie Country Club in Skokie, Ill.
