Coastal's Ballesteros in 5th; Men's Golf in 10th at Air Force

Falcon Invitational Day1 Through Round 2 Get Acrobat Reader

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Coastal Carolina sophomore Roberto Ballesteros fired a five-under 139 to stand in fifth place and just two shots off the lead after 36 holes at the Air Force Academy's Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, played at Eisenhower Golf Course.

As a team, the Chants moved from a tie for 14th to a tie for 10thin the 18-team field, carding an eight-over 584. Colorado raced out to a six-stroke after the first-round at 12-under par. However, the Buffaloes lead shrunk to two strokes after 36 holes with a 17-under par 559. UNLV had an impressive second round and is second at 561.

Ballesteros tied a career low with a five-under 67 in the first round Sunday and carded an even par 72 in the second round.

Also for the Chants, Sebastian Soderberg turned in a 75 in round one before shooting 68, his third career round in the 60's, in round two to vault into a tie for 19th (143). Senior Charlie Winegardner bounced back from a 77 to shoot even par 72. Freshman Ben Wheeler carded rounds of 77-76 and is tied for 83rd (153). Kevin Vanden Heuval shot 78 in round one and improved by one stroke (77) in round two.

Playing as an individual, freshman Andrew Dorn stood in a tie for 13th, firing a one-under par 71 inhis first collegiate round. However, he shot 79 in round two to drop into a tie for 69th.

The 54-hole Falcon invitational will conclude with one round on Monday.
