RADFORD, Va. - Coastal Carolina sophomore Sebastian Soderberg fired a career-low, five-under par 67 Saturday to tie for second at the NCAA East-Virginia Tech Championship as well as qualify for the 2011 NCAA Championships at the end of the month. As a team, the Chanticleers carded a 299 in round three and finished with an 898 to place seventh.

The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship is at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. - home of Oklahoma State University. The five teams that will advance to the national championship May 31-June 5 are the Blue Devils, Yellow Jackets, Oklahoma, LSU and Kent State.

The Chants missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships as a team by just five strokes as fifth-place Kent State finished at 893 and sixth-place Virginia Tech shot 896.

Soderberg turned in just his second career round in the 60's. The two-time All-Big South honoree carded a four-under 68 in the final round of the 2011 Big South Championship. On Saturday, Soderberg had consecutive birdies on holes four, five and six. However, he suffered a bogey on the par-3 seventh to finish the front nine at two-under par. To start the back nine, Soderberg had back-to-back pars before getting an eagle on the par-5 12th. He followed that with a birdies on 13 and 16 before finishing with a bogey on the difficult par-4 18th.

Tripp McAllister tied for 45th, shooting 77 Saturday and posting a 54-hole score of 230. Charlie Winegardner, the only Chant to par the 18th Saturday, shot 76 in the final round and tied for 51st with a three-day score of 231. Freshman Roberto Ballesteros posted an 81 and a three-round score of 232 to tie for 54th. Drew Ernst rounded out the CCU contingent, shooting 79 Saturday and 235 for the regional to tie for 63rd.
