RALEIGH, N.C. - Coastal Carolina junior Andrew Dorn carded the second-best score in the final round of the NCAA Raleigh Men's Golf Regional, shooting a 4-under par 67, to finish in a tie for 15th while Ben Wheeler placed 72nd at the par-71, 7,213-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State.
Dorn, who was tied for 52nd after the first two rounds, finished with a 54-hole total of 1-over par 214 (78-69-67) to rocket to his 15th-place finish. He tied for fourth among the individuals hoping to advance to the NCAA Championship. Cyrus Stewart (Wake Forest), who tied for sixth overall with a 4-under 209, was the individual to advance to the national championship.
Dorn, starting on the 10th hole, opened the final round with a birdie. He suffered a bogey on the next hole before getting a bogey on the par-3 14th hole. However, Dorn would back up the birdie with a bogey to stand at even par through six holes. He rallied with a birdie on the par-3 17th hole to make the turn at 1-under par. He opened his back nine like he did the front with a birdie on the 578-yard, par 5 first hole. He also had birdies on holes four and nine to finish at 4-under.
In his 36 rounds of 20-114, Dorn shot par or better 15 times, including four rounds in the 60's.
Wheeler finished 72nd with a 54-hole total of 230 (71-81-78). The junior had 13 pars with three bogeys and two double bogeys for his 7-over 78 for the final round.
