RALEIGH, N.C. - After playing seven holes before play was suspended due to rain, Coastal Carolina juniors Andrew Dorn and Ben Wheeler completed rounds one and two at the NCAA Raleigh Men's Golf Regional on Friday at the par-71, 7,213-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State.
Dorn is tied for 52nd with a 36-hole total of 5-over par 147 (78-69). Wheeler is tied for 71st with a two-round total of 10-over par 152 (71-81).
Dorn stood in a tie for 70th after 18 holes, carding a 7-over 78. However, in the afternoon session, Dorn posted a 2-under par 69 and moved into a tie for 52nd place. His first round was derailed with a triple bogey on the par-5 15th hole. However, from that point, Dorn reeled off three pars to close round one before opening his second round with a birdie on the first hole, a 578-yard par-5. He also birdied the par-5 7th hole. His lone bogey on his second 18 holes came on the 10h hole. Then, after taking a triple on the 15th hole in the first round, Dorn birdied the 15th hole to turn in his round of 69, marking his third round in the 60's this season.
Wheeler was tied for 20th after his opening round, shooting an even par round of 71. He had three birdies and three bogeys with 12 pars. He opened the second round with three pars and a birdie before suffering double bogeys on the fifth and ninth holes. His round was marred with a 10 on the par-5 15th.
The NCAA Raleigh Regional will conclude with 18 holes on Saturday.
