AUGUSTA, Ga - Coastal Carolina senior Sebastian Soderberg (75-68-66=209) fired a final-round 66 Sunday and out-dueled UCF's Greg Eason (70-70-69=209) to win a five-hole playoff at the prestigious Insperirty Augusta State Invitational Sunday at the par 72, 7,143-yard Forest Hills Golf Club. The Chanticleers tied for 10th in the 15-team field that featured 12 of the nation's top 50 ranked programs.

Soderberg, ranked 60th in the nation, and Eason, ranked 21st, both birdied the first playoff hole, then made three straight pars. On the 456-yard, par 4 fifth hole - which Soderberg had posted bogey in the first round, birdied in the second and posted par in the third - Soderberg hit five iron and then hit wedge just off the back of the green. However, he was able to sink a 15-footer for birdie to win.

"Yesterday, on the first hole of the day I made about a 50-footer up the hill," Soderberg said. "This is my fourth year playing here and yesterday was the first time I shot in the 60's at Forest Hills. My game is just so much better than it has been in the last three years. In the past I've always hit the ball pretty good, but the putting has always been an issue and now I'm more of a mature putter and stay patient."

This marks the second career win for Soderberg, who won the 2012 Furman Intercollegiate with scores of 68-68-68=204. This additionally marks Soderberg's fourth straight top 10 finish of the spring, tying for seventh, fifth and second twice, respectively.

On Sunday, set the tone early, getting a birdie on the second hole and getting to 3-under after birdies on hole eight. He bounced back to birdie the par five ninth to make the turn at 3-under. He reeled off birdies on holes 11, 13, 15 and 17 but would bogey the par 4 18th for his 60under par 66. The 66 is his second best career round, shooting 65 in the second round last week at Florida State, and ties for the seventh-best round in CCU history.

Soderberg, who led the field with 17 birdies played the par 3's at even par, tying for fourth-best in the field, was 2-under par on the par 4's, tying for second-best and played the par 5's at 5-under, tying for 15th-best in the field.

As a team, the 50th-ranked Chanticleers matched their second round 295 to tie for 10th (297-295-295) with #39 Central Florida (304-294-289) at 887. Sixth-ranked Texas shot a 3-under 285 Sunday to overtake 36-hole leader and host Augusta State (283-293-289=865). The Longhorns won by two strokes with a 54-hole score of 1-under par 863 (296-282-285).

Andrew Dorn, who was 6-under on the par 5's and turned in 33 pars over three rounds, carded a 77 on the final day to tie for 32nd (72-73-77=222). Ben Wheeler (76-76-73=225) moved up five spots to tie for 45th shooting a 1-over 73 in the final round. The sophomore had four birdies versus three bogeys and a double bogey for his round. Peter Valasek finished 70th (76-78-79=233) and Easton Renwick tied for 71st (74-79-82=235).

The Chanticleers will conclude the 2012-13 regular season April 22-24 at the 2013 Big South Championships, played at the Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C.
