AUGUSTA, Ga. - Andrew Dorn fired two rounds below par (70-71) and is tied for ninth at the 3M Augusta Invitational. The Chanticleers are tied for 12th with #23 South Carolina in the 15-team field, played at the par-72, 7,005-yard Forest Hills Golf Club.
Of the 15 teams, 12 are ranked among the nation's top 46, not including USC Aiken, the third-ranked team in NCAA Division III. There are three top 10 teams, including co-leader and #7 UCF, who is tied with #19 Texas for the lead after two rounds as each stand at 12-under par 564 after 36 holes.
The rest of the field is, in order of standing through two rounds, is #13 Virginia Tech, #9 Illinois, #8 Houston, #27 Baylor, #42 Purdue, host GRU Augusta, #28 Clemson, #43 Tennessee, #22 New Mexico, #23 South Carolina, Coastal, #46 TCU and NCAA DII #3 USC Aiken.
Dorn carded a two-round score of 3-under par 141 after 36 holes Saturday and is four shot off the lead. The junior was steady in the morning session, posting four birdies with two bogeys for a 2-under 70. In the afternoon, Dorn was up-and-down, but still managed a 1-under par 71 with five birdies and four bogeys.
Peter Valasek turned in rounds of 73-74 for a 3-over par 147 and is tied for 39th. His day was highlighted with eagles on the par 5, 540-yard ninth hole and the par 5, 560-yard 11th hole. Olle Widegren is tied for 43rd, shooting a 75-73 for a 4-over par 148. The freshman ended his second round with an eagle of the par 5, 553-yard 17th hole.
The 3M Augusta Invitational will conclude with 18 holes Sunday.
